Tips to avoid frozen face Botox treatments

Have you caught yourself staring in the mirror pointing out forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, nose wrinkles or other signs of aging on your face? If this sounds familiar, you’re likely among the many who have considered exploring cosmetic treatments to reduce lines and wrinkles. Thinking about facial injections often comes with some reservations. You may find yourself wondering will I look frozen?

This is one of the most asked questions we receive from clients. With some Hollywood actors having extensive work done and TV shows like Botched highlighting poorly executed cosmetic procedures, it’s easy to get nervous about how your face may look after treatment.

Botox, Dysport and other neuromodulator treatments are designed to reduce how strongly your muscles contract. By changing how effectively muscles move, we reduce their pull on skin and, in turn, reduce lines and wrinkles. When done correctly, this type of procedure can assist you naturally in the aging process and become a good addition to your beauty routine.

At Park, we aim to produce results that look as natural as possible for you. Here are some of our key tips to help make sure you’re feeling your best and avoid looking frozen when preparing neuromodulator treatments:

Choose the right injector

Make sure to pick someone who is medically qualified - like us! There are many injectors these days – we recommend working with someone with a medical background to ensure they have proper training and understanding of what they are working with.

You’ll want to be sure you are picking someone you trust professionally. With these treatments, you are literally putting your face in someone’s hands. Don’t be afraid to ask questions to get to know your injector’s qualifications and history. Choose someone who is familiar with the products and can plan exactly where to put them to give you the effect you are looking for.

Don’t be afraid to ask to see before and after pictures. Take a good look at their previous work to see if it matches what you want to achieve with your face.

Have a full consult

Your experience should start with a consultation where you discuss your face and goals. It’s important for you and your practitioner to know each other to see if it’s the right fit. You will likely be asked about what you are hoping to achieve from the procedure and to move in different ways so they can see how your face moves. These conversations will help your practitioner understand how your muscles work, exactly how much Botox or Dysport to use and where to put it.

Use this time to ask any questions you may have! There are no stupid questions. It’s good to get everything answered before the procedure to leave you feeling confident and prepared for the next steps.

Know what to ask for

Like most things in life, it is important to be clear about your goals. Make sure you tell your practitioner that you are looking for a natural and subtle look. A good injector will work collaboratively with you to decide the recommended amount based on the results you are looking for. It will vary depending on the area you are targeting and the muscles they will be injecting, but they should usually be recommending the lowest amount necessary to get you the results you’re aiming for.

Get tips and support after treatment

Things don’t end as soon as you get the injection – or at least, they shouldn’t. After your treatment, you’ll want to follow some rules to ensure your results meet your goals. A good practitioner will supply you with some post-treatment details but, in general, it’s helpful to try to avoid:

  • Massaging the area

  • Other procedures, like facial and laser treatments, for at least ten days

  • Excessive straining activities

  • The sun

  • Drinking large amounts of alcohol

Ask about post-treatment support. Botox takes a bit of time to take effect, usually a couple of weeks. Make sure your practitioner books you in for a follow-up appointment - it could even be a video appointment! In this meeting, you should be assessing how the treatment worked, adjusting as necessary and ensuring you’re happy with your result.

By being well prepared on what to look and ask for with your Botox or Dysport treatments, you will greatly reduce the risk of the dreaded frozen face.
