Fat-Dissolving Injectable

Fat dissolving injectables (also known under the brand name BELKYRA™ or KYBELLA®) are a non-invasive injectable treatment that use deoxycholic acid to target and destroy fat cells. It uses the same type of acid your body naturally produces to break down dietary fat. When injected into subcutaneous fat, it permanently destroys the fat cells in that area.

This treatment is ideal for anyone looking to reduce volume under the chin, or reduce localized pockets of fat without surgery or downtime.

How Fat Dissolving Injectables work for you

Fat reduction

Fat dissolving injectables contain deoxycholic acid, a molecule that naturally occurs in your body to help break down dietary fat. When injected, it breaks apart fat cells in the treatment area, which are then naturally metabolized and flushed out by the body.

Facial contouring

By targeting and reducing fat under the chin, fat dissolving injectables help redefine the jawline and enhance lower facial contours for a sharper, more sculpted profile.

Body contouring

Fat dissolving injectables can also be used to address small pockets of fat on the body, including areas like the stomach, love handles, and above the knees. It helps smooth and slim stubborn spots that haven’t budged with other methods.

What to expect

  • Before

    Avoid NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like Advil/ibuprofen) 2-3 days before your appointment.

    Limit alcohol and nicotine, and try to avoid scheduling your session right before an event as swelling is common.

    Full pre- and post- care instructions

  • During

    We’ll start with a consultation to understand your goals. If fat dissolving injectables are right for you, we can begin treatment the same day. The procedure takes 15 to 20 minutes. Injections contain lidocaine (a numbing agent) to reduce discomfort.

  • After

    Immediately after, clients will experience warmth and tenderness - this is normal.

    Up to 10 days after, most clients experience moderate swelling, often with some lingering puffiness that can last up to another week. In some cases, clients can experience more pronounced swelling that may persist for up to 14 days. Swelling is typically less intense after subsequent treatments. Bruising is also common and can vary from mild to moderate.

    To support healing, avoid exercise, alcohol, and nicotine for 48 hours, and try sleeping with your head slightly elevated the night of your appointment.

  • Results

    You’ll likely begin noticing subtle changes a few weeks after your second or third session, with the most visible results around the 3 to 4 week mark post-treatment.

    Most clients require 4 to 6 sessions to reach their desired outcome but here’s the difference: unlike other fat reduction treatments like RF, ultrasound, or freezing, fat dissolving injectables don’t require ongoing maintenance. Once your treatment plan is complete, those fat cells are permanently eliminated.

    Post-Treatment Follow-Up

    We’ll schedule a follow-up to monitor your progress, review results, and answer any questions. This also helps us assess whether additional treatment is needed to optimize your results.

    Around 1 in 5 clients experience more noticeable swelling that can last up to 14 days. It’s typically milder after each session. We recommend planning ahead if you have any major events.

  • We apply a topical numbing cream before your treatment, and the injections themselves contain an additional numbing agent—so most clients find the procedure very tolerable. You may feel some mild stinging or warmth, but discomfort is minimal and short-lived.

  • Most clients need 4 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. We’ll create a personalized plan based on your goals and anatomy.

  • Yes. Once the treated fat cells are destroyed and processed by your body, they’re gone for good. However, significant weight gain (typically 10–15% or more of your body weight) can cause the remaining fat cells to expand, which may compromise your results.
