Is it too early to start Botox?

Often we hear people say “I don’t think I need Botox yet,” or “I’ll start once I turn 30.” While nobody truly “needs” Botox -- you’re beautiful, wrinkles and all -- if you’re interested in preserving a smooth, fresh look into your middle years, it might make sense to start sooner than you think.

One of the main benefits of Botox is preventing wrinkles and lines before they start. When our facial muscles are allowed to pull on the skin and make transient lines, those lines slowly become more and more pronounced. These lines become even more pronounced as our skin loses its elasticity and moisture over time. Given time, these lines are what turn into the wrinkles we see on our foreheads and around our eyes.

By reducing how strongly our muscles pull on our skin, we can allow them to make our usual facial expressions without making such deep lines. If we’re not making those deep lines every day, it’ll take much longer to produce wrinkles.

One of the questions we ask our clients is, “If you were to develop wrinkles in that area, would that bother you?” If the answer is yes, it might make sense to start treating those areas with low doses of Botox early on to nip it in the bud.

Using preventative Botox often requires fewer units than treating lines that have already formed, which means lower cost and lower likelihood for complications. By investing a little now, we can avoid developing problem areas later.

It’s also never too late to give yourself a refresher. Botox can lessen lines that are already there, and prevent new lines from forming. If you’re looking to truly freshen your look, you could consider a gentle filler treatment for many facial lines or folds.
