NEUROMODULATOR (TOX)
PRE/POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Park providers are excellent injectors and will do everything possible to ensure you achieve your desired results! Here are a few things you can do to improve your results and reduce possible adverse effects.

pre-care

AVOIDING COMPLICATIONS

  • Avoid alcohol, NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc), aspirin, or other anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medications two days before your treatment. If any of these are prescribed by your doctor, check with them before discontinuing.

  • Avoid vitamin E, omega-3, ginseng, garlic, ginkgo, or St. John’s wort supplements for two days prior to or after your treatment.

  • Avoid exercise or sex six hours before your treatment.

  • Come without makeup, or plan to remove your makeup when you arrive. If injecting the lower face, beards should be shaven or closely trimmed.

  • Plan to be upright for three hours after your treatment.

  • If you have a history of herpes or cold sores and are planning to get a lip flip, contact your family doctor to discuss an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment.

POST-TREATMENT PLANNING

  • While most clients do not experience any visible effects, some may experience bruising that can last several days. Some redness and swelling may occur immediately after your treatment and should resolve after 2-3 hours. Consider scheduling your treatment with this in mind.

  • You’ll be booked for a post-treatment assessment two weeks after your treatment so we can monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to optimize your results.

Some people are not able to have neurotoxin injections. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a neuro-muscular disorder, or are taking a tetracycline or aminoglycoside antibiotic (such as for acne or rosacea), let us know right away -- we may have to reschedule your treatment or consider an alternative.

POST-care

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

  • You may experience swelling, redness, pain, itching, mild discolouration, and tenderness at your treatment sites. This is normal and should only last a couple hours.

  • Some people rarely get small red or swollen bumps at their treatment sites 2-3 days after their treatment, which should also resolve. If you experience these, please let your injector know at your post-treatment assessment. If you experience anything else, please email us so we can see what we can do to help.

WHEN TO CONTACT US

  • If you have swelling, prolonged redness (beyond a week), worsening discomfort, or any other concerns, please email us so we can assess and see how we can help.

  • Neuromodulators can take up to two weeks to take full effect, during which time it’s not uncommon to see imbalances in facial movement. Adjustments can be made at your two week post-treatment assessment.

SKIN CARE

  • Guard against infection by keeping the skin clean, especially in the first 48h.

  • If you see redness at the injection sites in the days following your treatment, avoid topical retinol products.

LIFESTYLE

  • Avoid alcohol, NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc), aspirin, or other anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medications for 3 days after your treatment. If any of these are prescribed by your doctor, check with them before discontinuing.

  • Avoid vitamin E, omega-3, ginseng, garlic, ginkgo, or St. John’s wort supplements for 3 days after your treatment.

  • Avoid exercise, sex, or extreme heat (saunas, sunbathing, hot yoga, etc) for 24 hours after your treatment.

  • For 1 hour: Exercise your treated areas every 10 minutes with the facial movements we described (frowning, smiling, raising your eyebrows).

  • For 3 hours: Remain upright and do not rub your treatment areas. Makeup can be gently applied.

Neuromodulators usually last 3-4 months. We recommend pre-booking your next treatment at your post-treatment assessment to ensure you get a time slot that works for you.
