CHEMICAL PEEL
PRE/POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Park’s experienced providers will do everything possible to ensure you achieve your desired peel results! Here are a few things you can do to improve your results and reduce possible adverse effects.

AVOIDING COMPLICATIONS

  • Please arrive without makeup on. Your provider will be able to more effectively cleanse your face if there is no makeup to remove.

  • For darker skin types: Prepare your skin for 28 days with a medical-grade skincare routine before treatment, usually involving a retinoid, broad-spectrum SPF, and/or other pigment-evening products. Continue the non-retinoid, non-acidic aspects of your regimen for 14 days after treatment to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Let us know if you would like skincare suggestions.

  • For all skin types: Prepare your skin with a medical-grade skincare routine, including broad-spectrum SPF daily for 14 days before your treatment. Let us know if you would like skincare suggestions.

  • Avoid products with retinol and salicylic or other acids for 5 days before your treatment (hyaluronic acid is ok!).

  • Avoid shaving for 24 hours before your treatment. Note that we may not be able to apply the chemical peel over your lower face if you grow facial hair, depending on how long and coarse your hair is.

POST-TREATMENT PLANNING

  • It’s common to experience redness and sensitivity for up to a day post-treatment. Consider scheduling your treatment with this in mind.

  • Some people experience redness and peeling, particularly around the eye, nose, and mouth, for a few days after the peel. This is more likely with deeper and stronger peels. Your provider will let you know if they think you’re likely to experience this, and using the provided post-treatment kit will help.

Some people are not able to have chemical peel treatments. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or experiencing a facial rash or irritation, let us know right away -- we may have to reschedule your treatment or consider an alternative.

POST-care

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

  • You may experience redness, pain, itching, mild discolouration, and dryness at your treatment sites. This is normal and should only last 2-24 hours. If you experience anything else, please email us so we can assess what we can do to help.

WHEN TO CONTACT US

  • If you have prolonged redness (beyond a week), worsening discomfort, or any other concerns, please email us so we can assess and see how we can help.

SKIN CARE

  • Guard against infection by keeping the skin clean, especially in the first 48h.

  • Use the post-treatment kit provided.

  • Avoid topical retinol products for 7 days and skin care products with salicylic or other acids for 3 days after your treatment (hyaluronic acid is ok!).

LIFESTYLE

  • Avoid exercise, sex, or extreme heat (saunas, sunbathing, hot yoga, etc) for 24-48 hours after treatment.

  • Avoid direct sunlight for 1-3 days post-treatment. Wear sunscreen and a brimmed hat for the best protection if you need to go outside.

  • Other treatments, including injectables or microneedling, should be avoided for 7-14 days after your treatment.

Chemical peel results will peak at close to 2 weeks post-treatment, and we recommend repeating your treatment in 2-6 weeks for a total of three treatments for optimal results. Following your three treatments, we recommend a maintenance treatment in 3-6 months. Feel free to book this online!
